First announced back in October, Blossoms have officially released their third studio album Foolish Loving Spaces and it is phenomenal!

The album was released at midnight ( so of course I stayed up to listen to it ) and I was not disappointed. Along with the three previously released singles 'The Keeper', 'Your Girlfriend' and 'If You Think This Is Real Life' the album brings us seven brand new songs which are all exceptional.

Opening up the album we have 'If You Think This Is Real Life' which was released as a single just days ago, full of gospel backing vocals and fun guitar riffs. With its repeated lyrics and bouncy melody, its hard not to love! The cheery opening of 'Your Girlfriend' soon plays, which was the first single to be released back in June last year before the album was actually announced. The gospel singers come back for the next track 'The Keeper' as well as a content piano verse continuing throughout.

Next up we hear a brand new song 'My Swimming Brain' with its 70s charm similar to McCartney's band Wings following throughout, soon followed up by 'Sunday Was A Friend Of Mine' with the positivity of Tom Ogden's singing really shining through. Romance soon shines through the album with the next two tracks 'Oh No (I Think I'm In Love)' and 'Romance, Eh?' both with their heart-warming lyrics and memorable melodies.

'My Vacant Days' takes a slightly different turn, being the only slowed down/acoustic song on the album - much like 'My Favorite Room' from the bands first album. Nevertheless, that doesn't mean it isn't as good as the other songs on the album ( because trust me it is ). Compared to the previous songs, it brings a unique feel to the album giving time to slow down and just take a minute to pause. Previously on Radio X, drummer Joe Donovan told us how, like 'My Favourite Room', the song won't be played at every gig or performance, but when it does it will be special!

Leaving the slowed down melody behind, next comes 'Falling For Someone' which Tom Ogden described as "writing down a big celebration of love". The song was partly inspired by U2 during the "Oooooh-oh" verses, since Ogden stated how they hadn't done a "Oooooh-oh" part in a song. Ending the album on a high note comes 'Like Gravity' which almost plays a part in looking back at the whole album, the situations within the songs, and accepting them - “I’m healing we are one and it brings me to clarity. She is season she is sun and it calls to my sanity,” sings Ogden.

To conclude ( I may be biased here since Blossoms are one of, if not my favorite band and have been for around 3 years now ) this album is one of the best albums I've heard in a while and doesn't contain one bad song. They were inspired by artist like Abba, Talking Heads, U2, plus many more and it really shines through. They had many inspirations yet they kept it original and unique - like they always are.

Blossoms have always been an indie band, and still are one, but it's fresh to see them reaching out slightly to different genre's and trying new things, while still sticking to their core sound. Like I said - incredible album, incredible songs.
